“After more than a year of empty chairs and silent halls, the Spokane Symphony is just months away from returning to the stage of the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox for its 76th season,” writes Stephanie Hammett in Thursday’s (7/15) Spokesman-Review (Spokane, WA). “ ‘I’m really proud of the digital season we did. But I have to say, nothing beats the thrill of hearing a live orchestra,’ music director James Lowe said…. Some [of last season’s] concert lineups … have been transplanted ‘wholesale’ while others have been augmented or pared back as needed. The new season will feature seven masterworks concerts and three pops concerts…. Tickets will be sold at full-capacity indoor seating, and masks will not be required for vaccinated patrons, executive director Jeff vom Saal said…. Lowe [will] open the new season with … Adolphus Hailstork’s ‘Fanfare on Amazing Grace’ … the Sibelius Violin Concerto [with violinist Bella Hristova] and Brahms’ Second Symphony.” Also planned are Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony; Spokane Symphony Concertmaster Mateusz Wolski as soloist in Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto; and three chamber programs at Barrister Winery. Composers will include Bruckner, Anna Clyne, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Dvořák, Elgar, Gluck, Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Sibelius, William Grant Still, Nikolai Tcherepnin, and Wagner.
